Some Time Management Facts
Absences are managed in Time Off, while attendances are managed in Time Sheet and SAP
SuccessFactors Time Tracking.
Enabling Time Management in Provisioning
The first step in the implementation is to enable the module in provisioning.
To enable the feature in Provisioning, it’s required to be a certified partner.
When performing this action a warning message appears, that will make us to think about it…

“Profile V12 (WARNING: Please perform the upgrade within Upgrade Center instead. If you use this setting, you cannot easily switch back to V11 Profile. If Upgrade Center is not available, you should back up scorecard settings in Provisioning before proceeding with the upgrade.)”
Enable Time Sheet — Requires:
- “Employee Central V2” (i.e., Event Reason Derivation)
- “Enable Generic Objects”
- “Enable Time Off”
- “Effective Dated Data Platform”
- “Employee Profile data audit”
- “Enable the Attachment Manager”
- “People Profile”
- “Role-based Permission” (This will disable Administrative Domains)
- “Profile V12”
Answer: The Profile V12 was automatically updated universally in 2015. So you can dismiss the warning message.

SAP Best Practices
During the implementation I couldn’t find the “Best Practices” content package at the Upgrade Center.
This was due to the Provisioning option not being enabled.

Time Recording Variants
When you implement Time Management in SAP SuccessFactors, you need to decide how your employees record working time. Employees can either record working time based on duration, or based on clock times
Duration-Based Time Recording | * Records absences and attendances. * Employees only need to record that they worked 8 hours on a certain day. * The start and end time of the recorded time isn’t considered. |
Clock Time-Based Time Recording | *Employees need to explicitly record that they worked. For example from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m |

Time Recording Methods
Positive Time Recording | Employees record all the hours they actually work (their ‘attendance time’), in addition to overtime, absences, on-call time, and allowances |
Negative Time Recording | Employees record only deviations (exceptions) from their planned working time. Other exceptions such as oncall time, allowances, and overtime can also be recorded using this method. Time sheet entries are generated automatically for the main attendance time types. |
Overtime Recording | NOT RELEVANT |
Absences-Only Time Recording | NOT RELEVANT |
Time Recording Profile
One of the most important objects in SF Time Tracking is the 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐞. A Time Recording Profile consist of several 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, and these Time Valuations consist of 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 and 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. They are used to calculate Overtime Premiums or the balance of the Working Time Account. You also can split hours into those that are within and those that are outside of the Flextime Bandwidth. You can identify Late Comers etc. In this way such a Time Recording Profile can become quite complex and confusing.

Time replication to SAP HCM HANA
Employee Working Time Replication to IT2010 – This replication sends all approved employee working time as submitted in the EC Time Sheet to ECP. It creates corresponding records with the desired Wage Type in Infotype 2010.
Employee Absence Replication to IT2001 – This replication sends only the approved employee absences to ECP. It creates corresponding records in Infotype 2001.

Since release 1605, the preferred method of integrating SuccessFactors Employee Central with Employee Central Payroll does not involve any middleware such as SAP Cloud Platform or Dell Boomi. Instead, employee data is replicated from Employee Central to Employee Central Payroll through a Point to Point (PTP) replication job.
